Gs-2 : IR- Crimean Issue- Russia

🅾️Critically analyze the strategic significance of Crimea for Russia and its implications for global order- V. Imp for prelims also.

⚠️MY PERSONAL TAKE :

⚜️1. Crimea teaches that geography remains destiny even in a hyper-globalized world.

⚜️2. Access to ports, water, and buffer zones still define national survival strategies-So Geography drives geopolitics: Russia seeks year-round access to warm water ports because much of its coastline is frozen for part of the year.Crimea, especially Sevastopol, provides deep-water port access to the Black Sea, enabling strategic projection into the Mediterranean and beyond.

⚜️3. Modern conflicts often disguise age-old strategic pursuits beneath contemporary narratives like democracy vs authoritarianism😅
- This is about water resources- North Crimean Canal supplied 85% of Crimea’s water needs.

Gs-2 : IR- India- Pakistan relations

🅾️"In abeyance" means temporarily suspending the enforcement or operation of a treaty without formally terminating it. But IWT cannot be terminated unilaterally (Article XII) - it needs mutual ratification. However India cited Fundamental changes in circumstances (population, climate change needs)+ Pakistan’s bad faith actions (terror sponsorship). BUt, ICJ precedents show it is difficult to successfully argue fundamental change (example: Nicaragua v USA case rejected claims)

🅾️Simla Agreement in Abeyance: Signed post-1971 war to manage peace and the Line of Control (LoC). Suspension signals that India no longer expects Pakistan to respect the LoC framework established by Simla.

Gs-2 : Judiciary- Arbitration

Gs-3 : Mobilization of resources/Economic growth- Ease of doing business

🔰Q) Critically examine the challenges faced by the Indian arbitration ecosystem and suggest measures to enhance the quality of arbitration outcomes.

🅾️The quality of any dispute resolution system depends not just on its rules but on the specialized human minds running it.If you want a world-class system, build world-class humans first, not just world-class rules

⚜️Assumption: A retired judge is automatically a good arbitrator → leads to court-like mindset in arbitration.Arbitrators are technically sound but not commercially agile or internationally relevant.

🅾️What is the real solution?-Treat arbitrators as a specialized professional class, not just ex-judges. Build a diverse, trained pool — lawyers, domain experts (finance, tech, engineering), dispute resolution specialists.

Gs-3 : Pollution- Solid waste

🅾️Problem :

⚜️1. Underreporting: Plastic waste data in India grossly underestimates actual volumes.

⚜️2. Infrastructure Deficit: Absence of proper Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), open burning, and lack of segregation highlight poor systemic preparedness.

⚜️3. Inadequate Methodology: Central/State Pollution Control Boards rely on outdated/incomplete reporting mechanisms.

🅾️Solutions : We read about them in this article-

⚠️Q) Discuss the significance of including the informal waste and recovery sector (IWRS) in the formulation of the Global Plastics Treaty. How can this inclusion ensure environmental sustainability and social justice? Illustrate your answer with examples from international and Indian contexts.-
